Early Detection, Treatment and Care

The National Alliance of Prostate Cancer Coalitions has adopted the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Prostate Cancer Best Practices Guide as its official guide regarding prostate cancer early detection, treatment, and care. The NCCN is the premier organization in the U.S. focused on supporting high quality evidence-based cancer care. The guide can be accessed here on the NCCN website.

Those accessing the guide must comply with the following language from NCCN: Access to the guide is governed by this legal language provided by NCCN: “Linked with permission from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Inc. © 2015 All rights reserved. Informed Decision Making

NASPCC has joined with the California Prostate Cancer Coalition (CPCC) to develop best practices for informed decision making criteria for screening, treatment and quality of life options. CPCC has developed an Informed Decision Making laminate that incorporates those criteria and is designed to help men and their doctor with the informed decision making process. The laminate can be accessed here.

Other Best Practices

The National Alliance of State Prostate Cancer Coalitions (NASPCC) strongly recommends that state advocacy groups familiarize organizational leadership with established best practices, and keep abreast of research and advances in prostate cancer care.

Defining Best Practices

Access to quality care for men with prostate cancer is a major national issue. Some states have small collaborative networks for finding care for underserved men. California is the only state that has successfully established a formal state program for providing follow-up care for men after screening – Improving Access, Counseling & Treatment For Californians With Prostate Cancer (IMPACT). The California Prostate Cancer Coalition supports this important and unique program.
