Coalition Formation

If your state has not already established a state prostate cancer coalition, we can help! The NASPCC offers a 1½ day presentation and coalition formation meeting to bring together the identified stakeholders in your state, envision the direction of your state’s prostate cancer coalition, and help with items such as developing your coalition’s Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives. We furnish notebooks to the meeting participants with examples of Articles of Incorporation and sample by-laws, provide advice on how to form a 501(c)(3) organization, and post meeting assistance to help with maintaining momentum, answering questions, and keeping your new coalition on track.

State coalitions are expected to show significant progress toward four items listed below. New NASPCC state coalitions are set up with these expectations in place.

  1. Support Early Detection of potentially lethal prostate cancer.
  2. Participate in Patient Education.
  3. Develop Statewide Network for Communication, i.e. e-mail/phone trees.
  4. Participate in National NASPCC activities, requests and tasks.

Development Resources

The “Guide For Success” is divided into multiple sections, each containing successful practices on many topics. The practices are ones that have been submitted by existing coalitions in the expectation that in a collaborative effort we can all learn from one another, encourage one another, and support one another.

The specific topics covered in the “Guide For Success” are:

  • Organization of a Board of Directors.
  • Funding.
  • Awareness.
  • Under Utilized, Under Served.
  • Assistance for Prostate Cancer Patients.
  • Leadership Training for Support Group Leaders.

The “Guide for Success” is available in two formats. The PDF version may be re-printed and shared with colleagues, and the MS-Word version is provided so you can copy and paste sections of the document for you coalition’s use.
